Thank you, Mr. Chair,

I would like to thank the President of Guatemala, His Excellency, Bernardo Arévalo, for his comprehensive update on the transformative reform agenda of his administration. I also thank Mr. Diaz for his presentation and welcome the positive outlook given on the potential of Guatemala. Appreciation also to Ms. Zelaya for her remarks.

Guyana recognizes the significant strides Guatemala has made since the signing of the Peace Accords in 1996 and we commend President Arévalo and his administration for the commitment to democracy and the rule of law, the commitment to place the country on the path to peace and development and the commitment to foster inclusion and improve relations with the Indigenous Peoples of Guatemala. We see this as crucial to rebuilding trust and fostering social cohesion. Guyana acknowledges and appreciates the critical role played by the PBC in these efforts.

I listened carefully to Mr. Diaz’s presentation and noted, in particular, the highlights he presented in relation to the resilience of the Guatemalan economy and the increased employment opportunities, particularly for young people. In this regard, on his observation on the need for investment and human capital and quality education to meet labour market needs, is particularly noteworthy.

Chair,
We believe that international collaboration is essential in advancing the goals of peacebuilding in Guatemala. To this end, Guyana encourages member states and international partners to continue to lend their unwavering support to the Guatemalan Government's endeavors, particularly in areas of education, healthcare, environmental protection, and sustainable development. We stand ready to support initiatives that promote pluralism, integrated solutions, and the active participation of all societal actors in the peacebuilding process.

Chair,
In conclusion, I reaffirm Guyana’s commitment to supporting Guatemala on its path towards peace, stability, and sustainable development. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the PBC and the international community to ensure that the gains achieved are preserved and expanded upon.

I thank you.
