Frontiers Department
The Frontiers Department is responsible for facilitating the management of Guyana’s relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Republic of Suriname both in the context of the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty and maritime spaces of Guyana as well as the promotion of bilateral cooperation with these two countries.
The Department also facilitates the protection of Guyana’s rights and the execution of its obligations in the context of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The Department in collaboration with Guyana’s Missions abroad seeks to promote at the regional and international levels support for the maintenance of Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Department coordinates with sector Ministries and Agencies to promote bilateral cooperation with Venezuela and Suriname, including within the aegis of the Guyana/Venezuela High Level Bilateral Commission and the Guyana/ Suriname Cooperation Council, with a view to ensuring that the cooperation programmes redound to the mutual benefit of the countries concerned and contribute to the deepening of relations with the two neighbours.
