His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali hosted a dinner meeting for the Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, HE Guo Haiyan and her team at State House last evening.

Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret'd) the Honourable Mark Phillips; Vice President, the Honourable Dr Bharrat Jagdeo; Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd; Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, the Honourable Oniedge Walrond; Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, the Honourable Susan Rodrigues; and Foreign Secretary, Robert Persaud were also at the dinner meeting.

Guyana became the first English-speaking Caribbean country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1972.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting Indian Minister of External Affairs, the Honourable Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and his team at State House tonight.

During brief remarks, the President called Guyana's relationship with India "strong and respectful" and one in which both countries share similar values.

He said the time is right to enhance cooperation at the government-to-government level and with the private sectors of both countries.

A number of cabinet ministers, government officials, members of the diplomatic community and private sector representatives were also at the dinner.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Guyana and his counterpart Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India today co-chaired the 5th Meeting of the Guyana/India Joint Commission

The Joint Commission Meeting included participants of various Ministries and agencies from Guyana and India who came together to discuss matters of economic and technical cooperation to further advance collaboration in priority areas identified particularly agriculture, health, infrastructure, energy, technology and innovation and human resources.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana and Minister of External Affairs of India witnessed the signing of an Air Service Agreement between India and Guyana

The Air Services Agreement was signed by the Honourable Bishop Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works and His Excellency Dr. K.J Srinivasa, High Commissioner of India to Guyana.

The Agreement provides a legal framework that opens market access for airlines of both Guyana and India to operate and enhance competitive air transport services, trade, and economic growth between the countries.
