His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali visited the Oriental Pearl Radio & Television Tower in Shanghai.

The Head of State and his delegation were given a guided tour of the massive 1,536 feet structure that creates a picture of 'twin dragons playing with pearls.’

President Ali and a Private Sector delegation are in China for a week, during which the Head of State will meet with the country’s President, Xi Jinping and other government officials.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali, today, visited Huawei’s Shanghai Research Centre where he met with the company’s senior Vice President, Jeff Wang.

After a tour of the facility, the two officials discussed a number of areas for cooperation, including the establishment of an ICT college in Guyana and sending a technical team to assess the need of the private sector here.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali on Wednesday met with the Mayor of Shanghai, Mr Gong Zheng.

The two leaders discussed several areas of cooperation, including establishing a Shanghai investment desk in Guyana and the possibility of the South American nation hosting the first Guyana/Shanghai expo.

President Ali was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honorable Hugh Hilton Todd, Guyana’s Ambassador to China, Her Excellency Anyin Choo, Presidential Advisor on Investment and Business Development Anthony Whyte and a group of Private Sector representatives.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali met with the President of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), Sergio Díaz-Granados, on the sidelines of the EU-CELAC Summit 2023 in Brussels, Belgium

The meeting discussed several areas, including potential investment opportunities for financing in public-private investments, support for the local private sector and catalysing innovative opportunities for climate financing through the carbon market.

President Ali was joined by Senior Minister within the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, the Honourable Dr Ashni Singh and Senior Director for Climate and REDD+, Ms Pradeepa Bholanath.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali held bilateral talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, during the EU—CELAC event in Brussels, Belgium.

The talks centred around exploring potential trade collaboration between the two countries, especially in agriculture, clean and renewable energy. President Ali also discussed Guyana’s nomination letter for visa-free Schengen status and the possibility of an interim in-country processing of Schengen visa applications.

The three-day EU-CELAC Summit is set to conclude today.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, the Honourable Mark Rutte, on the sidelines of the European Union—Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU—CELAC) in Brussels, Belgium.

During the discussions, various essential topics were addressed, including trade relations, regional cooperation, infrastructure, climate change, and water management.

On May 15, 1970, Guyana and The Netherlands established diplomatic relations, creating a lasting bond of mutual respect and understanding that still exists today.
