His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali attended the CARICOM Leaders meeting at the ongoing European Union-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) Summit 2023 in Brussels, Belgium, today.

The meeting focused on increased collaboration between the EU and CELAC. Dscussions were focused on trade, investment, energy, digital transition and transformation, climate change and the carbon market, and social development, among other areas.

The three-day EU-CELAC Summit is set to conclude on July 18.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali met with a delegation from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), an Indian aerospace company founded in the 1940s.

The meeting is a follow-up to the President’s visit to India earlier this year.

HAL’s delegation included General Managers Mr Ajay Shrivastava and Mr Puneet Kumar; Captain (Ret’d), Yogesh Jagannath and Chief Test Pilot, Mr Jitendra Choudhary.

The delegation was accompanied by India’s High Commissioner to Guyana, HE Dr KJ Srinivasa and First Secretary of the Indian High Commission in Guyana, Mr Mukesh Kaushik.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali called Canada a significant development partner to Guyana, that supports human resource growth, community development, the judicial system, security enhancement and the energy sector.

Speaking at a reception last evening to mark the 156th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, hosted by the Canadian High Commission in Guyana, the President said that Guyana anticipates greater collaboration with Canada through bilateral consultations in trade and investment and looks forward to finalising the air transport agreements.

Meeting of the National Advisory Committee on External Negotiations (NACEN) – July 12th 2023.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Wednesday July 12, 2023, hosted the Meeting of the National Advisory Committee on External Negotiations (NACEN) at the Arthur Chung Conference Center. The NACEN is part of Guyana consultative mechanism on national trade policy and its mandate includes discussing and advising on current trade issues relating to Guyana regional and international trade.

Guyana’s Foreign Minister accepted the UNDP Resident Representative’s Letters of Appointment.

During the meeting, Minister Todd welcomed the new Resident Representative to Guyana and reiterated the Government of Guyana’s commitment to partnering with the UNDP for advancing Guyana's developmental agenda.

Mr. Noto will have overall responsibility for the operational activities of UNDP in Guyana and comes to the post with knowledge, experience and competencies in areas such as leadership, advocacy and developmental partnerships.
