President Dr Irfaan Ali and members of his Cabinet held discussions with the United Arab Emirates' Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy and her delegation at State House today.

Prior to the meeting, he hosted breakfast in honour of the visiting official, where they both spoke about the importance of enhancing relations between the two nations.

Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, a number of other Cabinet Ministers, Government officials, representatives from the private sector and members of the diplomatic community were also present.

Minister Al Hashimy is on a one-day visit to Guyana.

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali arrived in Nassau, Bahamas this afternoon for the US-Caribbean Leaders Meeting set for tomorrow with US Vice President, Kamala Harris.

The meeting which will be co-hosted by Vice President Harris and Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Davis, is set to address a number of regional issues. High on the agenda is the shared effort between the US and the Caribbean in promoting climate resilience and adaptation in the Caribbean region.

The meeting, which is also expected to focus on energy security, is expected to build on the US-Caribbean Partnership to address the Climate Crisis 2030, launched last year by the US Vice President and Caribbean leaders, in Los Angeles at the Summit of the Americas.

Statement by His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, following Guyanaโ€™s election to a Non-Permanent Seat on the United Nations Security Council

Today, Guyana was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nationโ€™s Security Council for the period 2024โ€“2025. Guyana is honoured and humbled by the confidence that has been expressed by the international community in electing us to this most important position of responsibility on the global stage.

Guyana has now been accorded the opportunity to serve on the Security Council, which is charged under the UN Charter with the responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. Minister Todd delivers keynote address at reception for Guyana's UN Security Council Bid in New York

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, last evening delivered the keynote address at a reception hosted by the Permanent Mission of Guyana to the United Nations in New York ahead of the United Nations Security Council Elections which will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2023. Guyana is seeking election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the 2024-2025 term. Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, the Honourable Oneidge Walrond, was also in attendance.
