His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali accepted the Letters of Credence from the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Guyana, HE Ernesto Torres Pereyra at State House this afternoon.

The Head of State told the Ambassador that the two countries should strengthen their relations and work towards enhancing the lives of their people.

Guyana and the Dominican Republic established bilateral relations in October 1970.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Ambassador Elisabeth Harper, were also at the ceremony.

At the invitation of the President of Brazil, the Heads of State of the South American countries met in Brasilia, on May 30, 2023, to exchange views and perspectives on cooperation and the integration of South America.

The Presidents reaffirmed the common vision of South America as a region of peace and cooperation, based on dialogue and on the respect for the diversity of our peoples, committed to democracy and human rights, sustainable development and social justice, the upholding of sovereignty and non-interference.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Tuesday May 23, 2023 met a team of experts from the European Union (EU) undertaking an Election Follow-up Mission to Guyana.

The team was headed by Mr. Javier Nart, Chief of Mission and Member of the European Parliament amd comprised Mr. Alexander Matus, Electoral Analyst and Ms. Anne Marlborough, a Legal Expert. The Team was accompanied by Ambassador, Renรฉ Van Nes, Head of the Office of the European Union in Guyana and other officials.

The aim of the Follow-up Mission to Guyana is to assess the progress of the implementation of the recommendations outlined in the final report which was presented to the Government in 2021.

Prime Minister, the Honourable Mark Phillips hosted a dinner on Friday evening in honour of the visiting Secretary General of the Organisation of American States Luis Almagro, and his delegation at the Prime Minister's Residence on Main Street.

The Head of State, who is on an Official Visit to the Middle Eastern country, noted that Guyana and Qatar share a number of similarities, including promoting peace, stability and sustainability.

The embassy opening, he explained, was โ€œsignificant because it symbolises the physical existence of the bond of friendship, love and commitment between two countries, who share common values to secure the prosperity of humanity and to advance a cause through which we create a better environment for the people of our countries and the people of this worldโ€.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation today met with His Excellency Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, High Commissioner of India to Guyana.

During the meeting, Minister Todd and High Commissioner Srinivasa discussed the advancement of cooperation initiatives emanating from the visit of the Honourable Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India to Guyana during April 20-24, 2023.
