Mr. President,

I am honored to deliver this statement on behalf of the A3+, namely Algeria, Guyana, Sierra Leone, and my own country, Somalia. We express our gratitude to Special Envoy Hans Grundberg and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher for their valuable updates on the latest developments in Yemen. I also welcome the Permanent Representative of Yemen to this meeting.

Mr. President,

I have the honor to deliver this statement on behalf of the members of the A3+, namely Guyana, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and my own country Algeria.

At the outset, the A3+ would like to thank Special Envoy Geir Mr. Pedersen and ASG Joyce Msuya for their valuable briefings.

Mr. President,

Now more than ever, the Syrian people are seeking meaningful change in their country—a change that will enable them to realize their legitimate aspirations for peace, stability, prosperity and well-being.

1. I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the A3+, namely: Algeria, Guyana, Somalia, and my own country Sierra Leone.

2. At the outset, we wish to congratulate you, and the People’s Republic of China, on assuming the Presidency of our Council. We express to you, Mr. President, our best wishes of success.

3. We also seize this opportunity to commend Algeria for its able leadership of our Council’s work during the month of January.

Thank you for organizing this important briefing. I also express Guyana’s appreciation to UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Jan Egeland for the valuable information and perspectives provided. We pay today tribute to all humanitarians working in Gaza, and given the focus of today’s meeting, especially to Commissioner General Lazzarini and the staff of UNRWA for their unwavering commitment and service in the face of immense challenges

I thank you Prosecutor Karim Khan, for your presentation of the 40th report pursuant to Security Council resolution 1593 and for your sobering briefing. I also welcome the participation of the Permanent Representative of Sudan in today’s meeting.
