His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali accepted the Letters of Credence from the Non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, HE Carlos Alberto Velastegui.

The Head of State briefed the Ambassador on Guyana’s development pathway and it's leadership drive in climate, environmental services, energy and food security.

President Ali also pointed to the need for further collaboration between the two countries, including in the areas of tourism and education.

In his remarks, the newly accredited Ambassador extended gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him and assured that "Ecuador is ready to work jointly" with Guyana.

He said the areas of food security, sustainable development and conservation are also of paramount importance to Ecuador.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Elisabeth Harper were also at the ceremony.
