The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, today received a courtesy call from Her Excellency Ms. Linda Charlotte Te Puni, the newly accredited non-resident High Commissioner of New Zealand to Guyana.
During the engagement, Minister Todd and the Ambassador identified and discussed potential areas to further advance bilateral cooperation between Guyana and New Zealand, including agriculture and food security, climate change, culture and sport and capacity building and training.
Minister Todd also underscored the Government of Guyana's commitment to the rule of international law, democracy, good governance, and the preservation and protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The High Commissioner noted that New Zealand shares similar values and anticipated a mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.
Ambassador Te Puni presented her Letters of Credence today to His Excellency President Mohamed Irfaan Ali at the Office of the President.
Guyana and New Zealand established diplomatic relations on September 1, 1974, and have since maintained cordial ties and an active cooperation programme.
