His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali held a meeting with the Prime Minister of South Korea, Han Duck-soo on the sidelines of the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Tuesday.

Discussions centred on ways of enhancing cooperation between the nations.

Prime Minister Han congratulated President Ali on Guyana's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, while indicating his Government's willingness to support Guyana through a "framework of economic cooperation" and the country's technological movement by means of tailored education.

President Ali lauded South Korea's development while noting its "highly-skilled and developed human asset".

His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali held discussions with China's Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying on Monday evening on the sidelines of the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain.

The Chinese official congratulated President Ali on Guyana's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and on the dynamic role the Government is playing in spearheading the country and region's food security drive.

She also lauded Guyana's climate mitigation efforts.

President Ali said China remains a long-term strategic partner of Guyana and is active in the development thrust of the country.

The Head of State is expected to make an official State Visit to China at the end of July.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation earlier today received a courtesy call from His Excellency René van Nes, Ambassador of the European Union to Guyana.

During the courtesy call, Minister Todd was presented with a copy of the Report of the European Union Election Follow-up Mission, which was undertaken in May 2023, by a team of experts from the European Union to assess the progress of the implementation of the recommendations outlined in the final report which was presented to the Government in 2021.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation earlier today met with Her Excellency Karen Tan, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to CARICOM.

Minister Todd and Ambassador Tan discussed several areas of mutual interest towards advancing the cooperation agenda between Guyana and Singapore at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels.

Ambassador Tan's visit will serve to advance the collaborative agenda between Guyana and Singapore through continued engagement between the two Foreign Ministries.

Guyana and Singapore established bilateral relations on September 19, 2002, and have collaborated at the multilateral level through the Commomwealth and NAM.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali emphasizes health, education, and technology as pillars for agricultural resilience and food security in CELAC.

During the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the CELAC high-level Minister of Agriculture meeting, today, at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), the President spoke of the need for modernisation and integration.

He also said that women and young people must be intrinsically linked to the system as the region overhauls its approach.

A number of ministers from across the Caribbean and Latin America were at the event.

Minister Hugh Hilton Todd met Korean Forest Cooperation Delegation, led by Dr. Bae Jae soo, President of National Institute of Forest Science.

During the meeting, Minister Todd alluded to Guyana's developmental agenda-The Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and stated that environmental sustainability is of paramount importance to Guyana.

Minister Todd and the team noted the longstanding partnership between Guyana and the Republic of Korea and highlighted potential areas of collaboration in forestry, including the exchange of expertise and capacity building and forest science education.
