Statement delivered by H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, on behalf of the A3+, at the Security Council Briefing on 'The situation in Afghanistan'

Madam President,
I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the A3+, namely Algeria, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and my own country, Guyana. 

The A3+ thanks the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNAMA, Mrs. Roza Otunbayeva, Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, and Ambassador Andrés Montalvo Sosa of Ecuador for their briefings. We have also listened carefully to the statement by the CSO briefer, Ms. Mahboob.

Statement delivered by H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, in her capacity as Chair of the 2653 Committee, at the Security Council Briefing on the 2653 Committee (Haiti)

Madam President,
It is an honour for me to address the members of the Security Council in accordance with sub-paragraph 19 (e) of resolution 2653 (2022), by which the Council decided that the Committee should report on its work on an annual basis. 

In my statement I will provide a brief overview of the work that has been undertaken since the last report by my predecessor to the Council on 12 December 2023. 

To date, in 2024 the Committee has met on three occasions in the format of informal consultations and has held two briefings to Member States.

Madam President, 

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the A3+, namely, Algeria, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and my own country, Guyana.  

The A3+ thanks Ambassador Joonkook Hwang for his succinct overview of the work of the 1591 Committee over the period from 11 September 2024 to 10 December 2024 and reaffirms our continued support and constructive engagement in the work of the Committee.  

Statement delivered by Ambassador Trishala Persaud, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to the United Nations at the United Nations Security Council debate on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals

I thank the President of the Mechanism, Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, and Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz for their briefings and welcome the participation of the representatives of Serbia, Rwanda and Bosnia and Herzegovina in today’s meeting.

At the outset, I reiterate Guyana’s support for the work of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in carrying out essential residual functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the members of the A3+, namely Algeria, Guyana, Mozambique, and my own country, Sierra Leone.

We thank Ms. Bintou Keita, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and head of MONUSCO, for her insightful briefing and exemplary leadership of the Mission.

I would like to thank the President of Guatemala, His Excellency, Bernardo Arévalo, for his comprehensive update on the transformative reform agenda of his administration. I also thank Mr. Diaz for his presentation and welcome the positive outlook given on the potential of Guatemala. Appreciation also to Ms. Zelaya for her remarks.
